KOGI GUBER: WHY WE’RE YET TO ANNOUNCE CONSENSUS CANDIDATE – KOGI WEST ELDERS FORUM

QUESTION: What is the position of Kogi West Elders Forum on the Governorship issue in Kogi State presently?

ANSWER: Our position as a body has not changed and that is to ensure that a Kogi West candidate emerge as the next Governor of the state in the November 2023 election.
This position remain resolute in view of the fact that the zone is yet to produce a governor since the creation of the state in 1991.
Whereas, the other two Senatorial district of Central and East has at one time or the other governed the state repeatedly.

QUESTION: Can you please inform us on the choice of the consensus candidate from the Western zone?

ANSWER: We are not there yet as the forum is still working assiduously to narrow down the number of candidates as the clock is ticking towards November. We are still consulting and some of the sub-committee put our in place of the project are yet to turn in their report.

QUESTION: What is your reaction to the new University approved by the governor of Kogi State for Okunland?

ANSWER: It is a welcome development, but what puzzled some of us is the timing and the formation of a committee. I cannot remember if a committee was put in place for sighting a university at Osara in the central zone of the state. Also, the state must be very rich now to fund three state Universities same time.
This gesture of His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello will be complete and better appreciated, if the ticket of the next Governor of the state is supported by His Excellency to come from the Western zone.
On a final note, it will be recalled that the Forum massively supported the second term ambition of the governor in 2019 on the premise that he will inturn support a candidate from Kogi West as his successor to ensure power rotation in the state.
