WORLD MALARIA DAY: Reference Hospital Okene holds free Medical treatment

As the world marks the World Malaria Day, the management of the Reference Hospital Okene, organized a sensitization program on how to prevent malaria fever, offering free malaria treatment in the process. 

The event, which also featured free testing and distribution of drugs to patients with malaria, was attended by the Ohi of Okene, HRH, Mamman Okatahi, representative of Okene Local Government, supervisory councillor (Health) and HOD, Health, hospital management and staff as well as members of the immediate community.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof Solomon Avidime, stressed the need for the people to keep their environment clean from mosquitoes by clearing bushes, draining stagnant water and sleeping under insecticidal treated nets.

He admonished the people to avoid self medication but visit the hospital for check-up, correct diagnosis and treatment; adding that the drugs administered must be taken correctly and for the right number of days to be effective.

On his part, the Ohi of Okene, Mamman Okatahi, expressed delight at the initiative by the hospital which he said will go a long way to enhance the well being of the people.

Mamman expressed appreciation to the immediate past Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello for establishing the hospital and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for sustaining government’s healthcare programs for the overall benefit of the people.

Some beneficiaries at the event, Musa Yahaya and Wosilat Zubair, were full of praises for the management of the Reference Hospital for carrying out free malaria treatment and urged the staff to sustain the tempo of excellent services.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world”.
