Unknown gunmen on Thursday invaded Agojeju Odo community in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi state and killed nineteen (19) people, setting many houses ablaze as well

The community said the gunmen were Fulani bandits who were having running battle with Agatu militia in Benue state, but decided to extend their onslaught to the sleepy town of Agojeju Odo, Ajokpachi Odo, Bagaji and her environs because they felt these Kogi communities were taking side with the Benue people.

The bandits destroyed their farm produce with ease in attempt to draw them into the conflict.

According to a local who lost his wife, children, said the Fulani bandits accused them of being complicit with the Agatus against them; hence their (Fulani) decision to unleash mayhem on them.

Confirming the incident on Friday, the Public Relation Officer, Kogi State Police Command, William Aya, said the yet to be identified gunmen attacked Agojeju Odo community in Omala LGA on Thursday, noting that the Divisional Police Office of the local government informed him that nineteen people were killed while some sustained injury in the attack.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police Kogi State Police Command, CP Bethrand Onuoha has deployed more policemen to the communities, assuring that the perpetrators of the heinous act will be apprehended.

However, tommunity still appealed to Kogi state governor, Usman Ododo and Security Agencies to come to their aid by deploying more security personnel to the area, as the police in the Local Government Council have been overwhelmed and overpowered by the attackers.
