A sociocultural group, the Okun4Gov Strategy Committee, has expressed delights over the emergence of Sen. Dino Melaye and Elder Leke Abejide, as the governorship flag bearers of PDP and ADC respectively.
The expression was made in a statement jointly signed and issued by the Group’s Coordinator and Co-ordinator; Prof Mike Ikupolati and Amb. Sola Enikanolaye respectively on Tuesday in Lokoja.
”We are very delighted to know that Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye and Honoursble Elder Leke Abejide have won their party primaries for the Governorship tickets of Kogi State on the platforms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress respectively.
”Your victories with a large majority in each case have filled us with immense joy as they give hope and much-needed impetus to our popular quest for an Okun person to become Governor for the first time in the history of our state.
”The time to close ranks to achieve success in our quest has come.
”We must all work together in unity to achieve this common objective.
”It is our hope that the larger interest of Okunland in particular and Kogi State in general will be the primary focus,” Okun4Gov said.
The group restated that the clamor for a Governor of Okun extraction was not from an entitlement point of view but for equity, fairness and justice.
“We are, by this medium, extending our hands of fellowship and desire for mutual respect and peaceful coexistence to our brothers in the other Senatorial Districts of the State while seeking their understanding and support for our quest.
”Once again, our heartfelt congratulations to Sen. Dino Melaye and Elder Leke Abejide on their party’s primary elections victory.
“May the dream of an Okun person becoming Governor be a reality this time,” the group said.
